Post by omagicbum » Jun 27, AM I also exhibit similar problems, but I have problems with load. I have changed on the idle control valve 2 years ago. If I give it a lot of gas, than I can get the car moving.
My car is an e. What could be my problem? Another thing to check is the inside of the Throttle Body "TB", make sure it's relatively clean and not fouled with oil blow by. The TB should allow a small amount of air to leak past the actual throttle plate. This in essence sets up the base idle, which should be at about rpm.
Another thing that can cause this sort of thing is an O2 sensor sending bogus info back to the Motronic ECU. A quick test would be to simply unplug the O2 sensor. It powers the ICV. Normally, a vehicle should have a smooth and consistent RPM rate of around 1, If your vehicle is falling below or rising above this you may be dealing with an idling issue. Read on to learn a few of the reasons why your engine may have a rough idle, how to identify them and some simple fixes to try.
Most vehicles have a maze of hoses throughout which create a vacuum for both fuel and air. In older engines with a carburetor, this vacuum pulls the fuel into the engine.
Most newer vehicles, however, have a throttle to regulate engine speed and airflow through the system. This also creates a vacuum within the intake manifold. These hoses can wear out over time and a leak may develop.
If too much air gets mixed in with the fuel, it will cause your engine to misfire. This will result in a rough idle, usually at a higher RPM. A rough idling engine can be caused by spark plugs or spark plug wires. A plug that is damaged or installed incorrectly can result in fuel being burned at an inconsistent rate.
Wait about three minutes. Restart the engine, rev and hold at 1, to 1, rpm, and repeat the cleaning process again. Turn the engine off again, and reattach the air intake duct work to the throttle body. Cleaning the Idle Air Speed Control Valve with aerosol throttle cleaner can often solve an idle problem.
If the idle speed still surges after this, the IAC valve is defective and needs to be replaced.
