For those who do: Yeah, I'm probably the last person on the entire internet to find out about this, but I'm just now hearing about Spoony's 'departure' from the TGWTG site. I was a big fan of his earlier stuff, but I kind of lost interest in him after he quit doing regular video game reviews.
Those were some of my favorite reviews on the internet. I haven't really kept up with his work since then, but I love his cameos on other reviewer videos. Problem is, I can't get a straight answer as to what exactly happened and it's driving me kind of crazy- I've heard just about everything from violent misogynistic outbursts to Machiavellian conspiracies at the hands of co-workers.
I can't seem to sort the facts from the regular internet BS. Is there anyone out there who keeps up with this sort of thing who can tell me what actually happened? Links would be great because I've heard stuff that would be hard to believe without some kind of evidence but aren't at all necessary if that would be too much effort.
RPGnet Member. Validated User. From what I understand: Spoony who's suffering for depresion made a comment about keeping JessuOtak in the basement and raping here that he thought was humorous.
Chief among them Lupa Then Spoony went in a complete metldown on his twitter, claiming then he doesn't need therapy "because it won't work". And both sides seem bare no or little bad blood about, since the people at TGWTG are still talkimg aboout doing Spoony crossovers. Spoony has bipolar disorder Bipolar II to be specific. As a result he was suspended and later let go. He's now apologized, is on medication and has worked on restoring at least some of the damaged relationships although all sides seem to like the idea of giving each other room till things settle down.
He seems to be on good terms with at least Angry Joe, Linkara and CinemaSnob, so cameos aren't out of the question - just probably not for awhile.
Menocchio Eccentric Thousandaire Validated User. I've gotten the vague impression that there was definitely some bad blood between Spoony and some of the gang. That joking about raping a co-worked differed from previous behavior more in degree than in kind. He created the Experiment as a homage to Mystery Science Theater , the first show to scream back at the culture that raised him, and is very inspired by its humour. Noah initially began on the Internet writing comedic movie reviews called Tandem's Movie Rants, which are film critiques, live movie recaps, or essays on recent trends in film or TV.
With a viewpoint always controversial, Noah's rants are usually critical of both mainstream popular media culture and the detail-obsessive "fanboy" community. Over the years, these rants have evolved in form in the hopes of being entertaining but also to elevate moviegoer expectations. Thanks to the creative input and support and a fair amount of harsh derision from some of the Kenzerco Forumites, Noah has come to this new media to give back as much of the entertainment as possible that MST3K gave him.
Until recently, Spoony also wrote the Gamer's Rant on the Movies column in Knights of the Dinner Table Magazine, a national monthly gamer magazine available at all fine friendly local game stores, but the section was discontinued due to lack of popularity. For the February 12 to the 13th donation drive , Spoony did a special review of the game "Star Trek: Borg" for the PC and was one of the first videos the team played at the event.
While playing the game Final Fantasy 2, Noah came across a scene where the game's bard, Edward, was getting the crap beaten out of him by an old sage.
During this Rodney King-esque beating, the sage howled in badly-translated Japanese rage "You spoony bard!! Today, spooniness indicates a devil-may-care swashbuckling spirit, where all men are equal and free and should be generally nice to each other, and embrace wine, women, and song.
Now he carries the name as an Internet handle, because-- while silly-- it's infinitely more memorable and interesting than Noah Antwiler.
Later on, the site was originally launched to host comedic, MST3K-style commentaries for more-modern movies complete with host-segments where the Spoonster is subjected to "Experiments," hence the title. For those of you don't know That Guy With the Glasses is the critic site featuring the Nostalgia Critic and Linkara, the latter a well know comic book reviewer in this site at least.
Spoony used to be one of their greatest contributors but since last year he suffered some mental breakdown after his rather messy break up with his girlfriend. He is attacking anyone on Twitter that threatens to even talk with him right now.
I am bringing this up because he used to be one of my favorite reviewers on the site and its really sad to see this happen. I have been better informed of actually transpired. A month ago Spoony made a insensitive joke to JesuOtaku about raping her if her relationship with Nash didn't work out.
He apologized and she accepted everything seemed fine. Obscurus Lupa find out about brought it up again and attacked Spoony publicly with several reviewers and fans backing her.
