With an energy rating of B, this is one of the most efficient integrated dishwashers around. However, there is much to be said for a dishwasher that brings many of the benefits of a high-end dishwasher at an affordable price.

This could be just the dishwasher to solve your kitchen layout conundrum. Fixed to a custom door matching the rest of your kitchen, this dishwasher can blend seamlessly into its surroundings. In terms of dishwashing performance, highlights include automatic load sensing and water adjustment, and very quiet performance, with a noise level of just 44dB.

Like the above models, it has eight programmes and can house 14 place settings. On test, it performed best on the normal setting, producing spotless and dry crockery. It couldn't remove sugary baked-on food from a glass dish on the eco setting though. This is the most affordable of the three Miele models in our top It doesn't have some of the more advanced features found on the high-end models but it still performs well.

It scored full marks for wash results on its normal, eco and intensive washes, although it lost marks for low water and energy efficiency on the normal and intensive tests. This new, pricier freestanding Miele has all the features of our winning model but also comes with some extra functions. It doesn't have the automatic open door drying that the winner does, though. This model scored full marks on our normal, eco and intensive tests - everything was clean and dry at the end of each cycle. Its water and energy consumption readings were poor when it was set on an intensive cycle though, and it was difficult to fit all 14 place settings in.

We like that this Bosch projects the time remaining on a wash onto the kitchen floor. It also has an app that you can control it from - you can see the progress of your wash, as well as how much energy it has used too. It's worth noting that it has enough space for 14 place settings, but the lower basket can't always fit larger plates. The machine also projects the time remaining in a cycle onto the floor. The normal cycle was equally good, however uses more energy.

We also found it didn't quite fit in the full capacity. It can fit nine place settings and the six programmes are all you need for everyday use.

It performed best on the normal programme, where it removed most stains and left dishes dry. The results on the eco and intensive settings were less impressive, but items still came out clean. It performed well on the eco cycle, removing almost all stains. The normal and intensive washes weren't quite as good though, as some items still had marks.

This Whirlpool model uses sensor technology to detect how dirty the load is and adjusts its programmes accordingly. We found that it did best on eco setting, scoring top marks for its wash performance and low energy and water consumption.
