Who owns parts channel

So I really see that happening. I really see automotive being the ones. They need to get either in a real niche and be really, really great at it. Diesel Parts is a cross-reference and parts look up tool that makes it easier to identify heavy-duty parts than ever before.

Go to parts. Like I love to hear and see what people are talking about. And there are dozens and dozens of Facebook groups devoted to basically truck drivers asking questions on, I have this fault code, what do I do? I got quoted 10 hours to do this job, how long does it really take there? So first of all, if I owned a truck, actually I own five or six trucks, but we just used them for demo purposes, but if I had a truck and actually use it to make money with, I would, first of all, get the right tool that can read all the proper fault codes.

We have tools that are a couple of hundred bucks that will do exactly that thing. Diesel Decoder is a great tool, Bluetooth hooks up to your phone.

You can one tap and instantly see repair information for that fault code. So today we can get you all the way there to the repair information and tell you what part you need to buy or what component.

I need an EGR valve. We have another system that tells you how to look up that part number. So very soon people will be able to go from that fault code all the way to that.

So Tyler, we did an episode on Diesel Decoder. Like Diesel Repair or Diesel Parts to make more money? Yeah, so I ran a repair shop before, we had a little bit of mobile stuff, but it was mainly in shop stuff. So I should do those things. We have free PC based software that does those things, the Diesel Decoder can do on demand. Because once you know, you can take that data and put it on a nice web platform. Now you can really easily manage everything going on.

And of course, when you have fault codes, those leads the parts and it improves the process again. Amazing how much data information makes a big deal in our industry, but it really does. So leverage the platform to cut your costs, to cut your labor rate costs and to be able to spend more time on labor rates that you can actually charge money for and, and satisfy a larger group of customers. So to me, I see a win-win, win-win there. Really three pieces of free software we offer.

Diesel Explorer, which is a PC-based software. You get some hardware and put it on a laptop that can read all your fault codes. You have Diesel Repair that tells you how to fix all those fault codes and how to do things. And then you got your Diesel Parts that tells you what parts you need to buy to actually fix your truck.

Again, links will be in the show notes. Just go to the show notes to the episode, links will be there. We started this conversation talking about the future of parts distribution. I want to end the conversation there.

If you are a parts manufacturer or a heavy duty parts distributor, how urgent is it to start developing a digital sales channel? You know, on the, I would say on the parts manufacturer side you need to work through your distribution or figure out what your method is to do e-commerce right. You have to have one. The parts manufacturer, the other thing I need to say too, is you gotta build your brand.

So if you look today, I needed to buy some parts. I have a Toyota Camry. I need to buy some parts. There was four brands displayed to me. You want them to know your brand. So they need to do everything they can to put their names in front of customers and build value. So they need to do all kinds of things. They have to build their brands. And those distributors, they got to figure it out, man.

I guarantee you, everyone who owns a parts distribution company or works there is buying a lot of stuff online and they do it every single day but they have their head in the sand when it comes to their business on doing it as well. So they got to start just investigating resources, start playing with online stuff, start talking to people. People used to say it was inventory and delivery knowledge. Those are the three things that you have a retail store for.

The internet and the unveiling of all this information to look up your own stuff, just totally diminishes their value that they provide. They gotta be important resources for their customers. They got to find a way to do that. It needs to be better supported. And so we were just doing our part. So we are available to you. We are resources available to you. Please reach out to us and make sure that you take action today. So just Google our names. We want to have conversations.

We want to help. I need the aftermarket to be here for a long time. I want us to have a healthy industry. And we need to make sure we do everything we can to support it. And we have been speaking with Tyler Robertson, founder and CEO of Diesel Laptops, who will give you a tremendous amount of free tools to make your business better.

Links will be in the show notes, but the best place to start off is diesellaptops. Tyler, thank you so much for being on the Heavy-Duty Parts Report. Always a pleasure to have you here. For one, any visitors to your dealership website will have easy access to the parts website plug-in. You can also hand out coupons , fliers, or parts website business cards to people who visit your parts counter or service lane.

With a parts website plug-in, shoppers can browse around and find what they need. They can see images and diagrams of the parts, for example, along with price and shipping estimates. You could very easily sell to parts shoppers across the country or even across the world. With that kind of reach, selling online is a great way to eliminate obsolescence. Easy, low-maintenance part selling?

This might be the channel for you. In a way, this can be good. The sky is the limit when you launch a standalone website. With your own parts website, you can set your own rules—design, pricing, shipping, etc—and aggressively grow parts department sales how YOU want to. If you want a channel that helps you aggressively grow sales, then this might be the one for you!

As long as you have a marketing strategy in place , you can attract shoppers to your website. When you combine a solid pricing matrix with quality customer service, you can even start building a loyal customer base that comes back to shop with you any time they need a part. When you expand your market reach to a national or international level, the number of potential customers multiplies tenfold.

With such an expanded customer base, this also makes a standalone parts website ideal for eliminating obsolescence. The website design, for example, is completely up to you. From there, you can work with our design team to rearrange sections, set up new pages, create custom banners, and so on. You also get control over how you choose to sell. You can set up unique policies for shipping , returns, and cancellations to best fit what your team can handle.

And, of course, you can set your own pricing and shipping strategies. Build a pricing matrix to balance out your prices, for example, and play around with different margins. Even though you can build a pricing matrix on any channel, marketplace margins are more restricted by competition, and many plug-in sites will simply choose to match their counter pricing for parts.

No other company goes to nearly as much trouble to be represented in as many countries as possible. Autodoc ranks very well in the top 10 Google suggestions for common searches involving multiple web shops.

The inexperienced shopper initially assumes a wide range of different suppliers, but the order then ends up in the same logistics center in Berlin. Russia occupies a similarly dominant position compared to other countries. Russian car parts webshops generate by far the most traffic. The number of webshops with a measurable flow of visitors is also significantly higher here.

Great Britain is in second place, followed by France. Germany is in fourth place. Spain and Italy follow at a greater distance and have only a few national players among the top online retailers. In how many countries do online auto parts retailers operate one or more webshops? The marketplaces Ebay and Amazon are also taken into account.

It is listed with which accounts the companies are represented on these marketplaces. In the future, more marketplaces will be added, as many countries have their own marketplaces that are more relevant on a local level than the two online giants Ebay and Amazon. The Ebay channel still seems to be the more important of the two marketplaces. Of course, significantly more companies are active on Ebay and Amazon. In Germany alone, the number of Ebay accounts is around 14, We have identified the Ebay accounts with the highest turnover in the auto parts category and assigned them to the respective companies for which detailed insights are available.

For companies, you can see which sales are generated per account with which products in the respective product categories. With just a few clicks, you can see which are the relevant companies for each product category.

Parts manufacturers can see how strongly their brands compete with others and at what prices their products are offered on Ebay. In addition to online auto parts retailers, auto repair portals around the world are also listed. Again, a look at the visitor numbers helps to gage the reach and acceptance among motorists. It is clear to see that the use of comparison portals for car services is significantly more popular in the USA and Great Britain than in Germany.
